Travelers seeking to get around the Mid-West or Eastern states at a cheap rate have several bus services to choose from. One of the best is Megabus, where seats can sometimes be had for as low as $1.
Megabus Expands Washington, D.C. Routes
One of the company's most popular destinations is the city of Washington, D.C., so it only made sense to use it as a base for a new expansion of their route system.
As of December 15, 2010, Megabus will add ten new routes using the city as a hub. These new routes include Washington, D.C., to the cities of:
- Boston, MA
- Buffalo, NY
- Charlotte, NC
- Hampton, VA
- Harrisburg, PA
- Knoxville, TN
- Pittsburgh, PA
- Raleigh/Durham, NC
- Richmond, VA
- Toronto, ON, Canada.
These join the currently operating routes of Washington, D.C., to New York City, Philadelphia and Baltimore, MD.
To kick off service on these new routes, Megabus is offering 1,000 free tickets for travel done between December 15, 2010, and January 15, 2011. Use promo code ILUVDC when booking.
Megabus Expands New York City Routes
In addition to adding a slew of routes to/from Washington, D.C., Megabus is also adding two new routes from New York City.
Starting December 15, budget travelers will be able to journey from the Big Apple to Hartford, CT, and Amherst, MA.
To kick off service on these new routes, Megabus is offering 1,000 free tickets for travel done between December 15, 2010, and January 15, 2011. Use promo code NEWNYC when booking.
Megabus Offers More than Cheap Fares
Even if seats for as low as $1 were the only thing Megabus offered its customers, it would still be a great deal for travelers on a budget.
However, the company also offers free wifi and power ports to plug in electronics. This helps the trip pass faster, as one can get work done or surf the web.
How to Book with Megabus
It's easy to book a ticket. The Megabus website has clear navigation and a wealth of tools to help book, including an interactive route map of all destinations.
Megabus serves over 40 cities in the Mid-West, Eastern and Mid-Atlantic states. Each city connection is considered an individual ticket. For instance, travel from Amherst, MA, to Washington, D.C. would require two separate tickets, one from Amherst to New York City and then one from NYC to D.C.
Unfortunately, they haven't yet connected the Mid-West cities to the rest of the cities served. But they are continuously expanding their service, so it's probably only a matter of time.
Megabus continues to be one of the best methods of cheap travel in North America. After all, who can't afford $1 for a ticket?
