National parks never cease to be a great idea for a budget vacation. Amazing scenery, historic destinations and just the natural wonder of communing with nature are all ingredients for a memorable vacation. Add to that the fact that most Americans live within a day’s drive of a national park, and there’s no reason not to pile the family into the car and get away for a quick and cheap trip.
However some are put off by the admission charges some parks levy, which do go for upkeep of these parks. So pack the bags, some camping gear and get out there and enjoy a quick low-cost vacation on the following dates when the entrance fees are being waived across America.
When is National Park Week 2010?
The dates for National Park Week are April 17 through 25, 2010. This ties in with the celebration of Earth Day, which is April 22.
It also encompasses National Junior Ranger Day, which is on April 24, 2010. This unique and fun event allows children to participate in certain park ranger-led activities and earn badges upon completion.
What Does Fee-Free Mean?
Fee-free refers to the entrance fees most U.S. National Parks members collect to pay for things like upkeep, staff and more. This means visiting during the no-fee week can save up to $25 per vehicle.
However, there still may be fees charged for things like campground rentals, as well as service items like tours, food and beverages, etc. Since these are all optional items, it’s up to the individual as to how much is spent. Of course, it’s possible to minimize expenses here as well by doing things like bringing in a cooler full of drinks and food for the group to share.
Save Even More with Vendor Offers
Many of the stores, campgrounds and tours are operated by third-party companies. Some are offering extra discounts or benefits to those who are visiting during the fee-free weekends. These include everything from free group photos and shopping bags to discounts on food, beverage, lodging and more.
A complete list of current offers can be found online.
